He Ordained the Moon for Specific Lunar Appointed Dates – Psalms 104:19
He Ordained the Moon
for Specific Lunar Appointed Dates
Psalms 104:19
Within this interlinear Scripture word study it is discovered that at creation as defined in Psalms 104:19, originally written in Hebrew, the Creator ordained the MOON to announce all His SEASONS, which literally means (H#4150 – מועד – mo`edim = specific lunar appointed dates) for all worship assemblies. In this way announcing the Creator’s YEARS, NEW MOON DAYS, SABBATH DATES, and SPECIFIC LUNAR APPOINTED DATES. This presentation runs contrary to the status quo of the modern Jews and Christians alike, although well hidden under the rubble of errors in translations, false paradigms of Jewish traditions, and commandments of men (Titus 1:14), the evidence is still there.
The Lunar Phase Designed to Rule the Night
“He ordained the moon for seasons [H#4150 – mo’edim – specific lunar appointed dates]: the brilliant rays of the sun reveal and endue it, making known its entrance [along the east-west time continuum].” Tehilim (Psalms) 104:19
Here in Psalms 104:19, it is discovered that the moon was created and ordained for a specific purpose supporting the Genesis 1:14-18 narrative, but with some added details. So let’s take a moment to break down what this single sentence is revealing.
- WHO – The Most High, YAHUAH Alahim for the sake of Yasharal (Israel and all the other obedient of earth throughout the ages).
- WHAT – The MOON was ordained to beacon (mo’edim) plural, yet specific lunar appointed dates for worship assemblies, which include: 1) the start of Years; 2) start of months; 2) the lunar seventh-day Sabbath; 3) and all the lunar appointed Feast Days of the Torah Law.
- WHEN – All the commencements of worship assemblies were to be signaled by the physical appearance and ENTRANCE of the moon.
- WHERE – The full moon as New Moon appears in the EAST, and rules the entire night together with the starry constellations (Genesis 1:16).
- WHY – The purpose of the moon was to synchronize and ensure that all Yasharal (Israel and all other obedient of the earth) could ENTER IN to worship their Creator and sustainer on the same days that He was receiving worship throughout the universe.
- HOW – On one night only the New Moon lunar phase event transpires because the brilliant rays of the SUN shining directly upon the face of the full moon is witnessed from earth by night. This single night event each month is only visible to humanity because the moon stands in opposition to the sun in a perfect syzygy, meaning the sun is not present nor visible. Both its position and phase signals its ENTRANCE in the EAST and NOT its EXIT in the WEST. All sacred days were then counted from this sacred and brilliant moon event in the shamayim (heavens). Psalms 104:19 and Revelation 12:1
Only one lunar phase makes its entrance in the east and traverses along the east-west time continuum all night long. The only lunar phase meeting these criteria is the full moon. Psalms 104:19 continues to define the what, when, and how by which the full moon rules the night. This occurs at the point of the moon’s visible entrance in the east, when it is revealed, endued, and made known by the brilliant rays of the sun, after sunset.
There are those who would have us believe that Psalms 104:19 is a description of the dark moon as it comes into perfect conjunction with the sun. But the context here is of the BRILLIANT LIGHT of the sun having its full effect upon the moon. The moon was filled with its LIGHT upon its “entrance” to rule and proclaim the appointed times, by night, all night long. This alone corresponds with Genesis 1:16, where the sun rules by daylight alone, and the moon rules all night along the east-west time continuum when the sun is NOT present. This is describing a highly visible event. The grandest display of lunar monthly interaction between the sun and the moon can never be manifest as a measuring instrument by a dark moon, or even a crescent. This noble 12-hour display of LIGHT in the night sky belongs to the full moon, alone.
“And then the moon, ever punctual to mark the times, is an everlasting sign: It is the moon that signals the Feasts [specific lunar appointed dates], a luminary that wanes after being full. The month derives its name from hers. She waxes wonderfully in her phases, a banner of the hosts on high, shining in the vault of heaven [the shamayim].” Ecclesiasticus 43:6-8, circ.19-180 B.C.
Compare this to the following quote from Latin antiquity, which gives the Latin, Greek, and Hebrew meaning of the sun and moon.
For example, Helius is Chammah and Shemesh [meaning the sun]. Selene [#G4582 – brilliant moon] is Yareach, or Ha-labanah [meaning the moon], and hence is also called mene. The ‘month’ is called ‘the mene’ and the moon is called ‘mene,’ as it also is in Greek, because of the [lunar] month. The Panarion of Epiphanius of Salamis, First Book Section 1, Part 16, Epiphanius Against the Pharisees 2:3
It is true that the dark moon arises in the east, but it only does so along with the sun at sunrise when it is entirely invisible. When measuring time, the moon was designated to rule only with the stars by night, meaning that when the moon begins to rule arising in the east, the sun is NOT PRESENT because it has just set in the west, marking the commencement of night. This is the Scriptural definition of the true New Moon. According to Genesis 1:14-18 daylight is the time designated for the sun to rule alone, entirely removed from the moon and stars for the duration from sunrise to sunset. Thus, it was the expressed will of the Creator, according to the Tanakh (OT) that the moon and stars were ordained to rule together by night, from sunset to sunrise, without the sun.
The Genesis 1 Narrative
While not mentioned by name, there are only three categories of lights represented in Genesis 1:14-16:
1) The greater light to rule by day = the SUN
2) The lesser light to rule by night = the FULL MOON
3) with the STARS.
Now if there is any question that the sun is the greater light ordained to rule alone by day, and the full moon is the lesser light ordained to rule together with the stars by night, we will find three additional witnesses to Genesis 1:16 here:
Now that we have established that the moon is the lesser light spoken of in Genesis 1:14-18, we find it was created and ordained for the purpose of projecting its full LIGHT on the night it ruled, which can only be realized as it receives its direct rays of brilliant illumination from the sun. For without LIGHT there is no visible moon. The moon only has a viable application as it is both visibly lit and arises in the east to shine as the LIGHT in a dark place.
And so we have the prophetic word confirmed, which you do well to heed as a LIGHT that shines in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts. . . 2 Peter 1:19
So we find it is the full moon that shines in a dark place and not the sun, as it is speaking of the time prior to sunrise. It is in the same way that our Messiah was a reflection of the pure light of His Father while here on earth, radiantly bestowing truth to a sinful and degenerate people. As we receive from His abundance, likewise we are to emulate our Messiah’s example as we are being restored by Him to the fullness of truth, and will therefore ultimately and perfectly reflect the pure light of the Father throughout all eternity. As a result, it is the true full New Moon that is an impeccable symbol of the fully restored man or woman of Yahuah and not a dark conjunction, or slim crescent lunar phase.
Wisdom from the Dead Sea Scrolls
Among the discoveries of the Dead Sea Scrolls is a document called the Rule of the Community. Within it is a paragraph about the specific “times” for offering prayer. Notice their relation to the LIGHTS:
He shall bless Him [with the offering] of the lips at the times ordained by Him, at the beginning of the dominion of LIGHT and at its end when it retires to its appointed place; at the beginning of the watches of darkness when He unlocks their storehouse and spreads them out, and also at their end when they retire before the LIGHT; when the heavenly LIGHTS shine out from the dwelling-place of Holiness, and also when they retire to the place of Glory; at the entry of the seasons [seasons = למועדים H4150 – mo`edim – specific lunar appointed dates beaconed by the full moon], also at their end when they succeed to one another. Their renewal is a great day for the Holy of Holies, and a sign for the unlocking of everlasting mercies at the beginning of seasons [mo’edim] in all times to come. Calendars in the Dead Sea Scrolls: Measuring Time, James C. Vanderkam [address missing] [emphasis mine]
According to this Dead Sea Scroll portion, the day begins at sunrise, but notice the reference made to the month: “at the ‘entry’ of the [monthly] seasons.” The word seasons is the word mo’edim and specifically means “set-apart assemblies manifest by the moon.” Do not miss the fact that this whole paragraph above is focused on the LIGHTS with their entry and exits for days, months, and years. Amazingly, no one ever questions that the sun and stars rule from east to west until you insert the little detail about when the day begins. All of a sudden you get a variety of answers: 1) The Jews declare the day, ruled by the sun, begins at sunset; 2) The Romans declare the day, ruled by the sun, begins at midnight; 3) The faithful Scripture followers declare the day, ruled by the sun, begins at sunrise. And just as the day begins with the LIGHT of the sun in the east, so too, is the entry of the month, but only as a full LIGHT lunar phase arising in the east.
Another way to look at this, is that just as the “sun rules the day,” from east to west when it is visible, in like manner the “moon rules the night,” from east to west one night only as a LIGHT, together with the stars when they are visible. As a result, the entry of the month can be no other than the entry of the full moon in the east, arising majestically, conspicuously, and by extension profoundly visible. For the east is the entry of all ruling bodies, including the ruling Messiah, who we are told will return from the EAST at His second coming. Refer to the article, The East-West Time Continuum.
Just as surely as the
lighteningluminaries [sun, moon and stars] arise from the east and shine forth even unto the west, so in like manner shall be the coming of the Son of man. Matthew 24:27
In the Dead Sea Scroll quote above, with regard to the months, it also declares, “their renewal is a great day for the “Holy of Holies,” the sign for unlocking of everlasting mercies at the beginning of seasons [seasons = למועדים H4150 – mo`edim – specific lunar appointed dates beaconed by the full moon].” This is a most interesting statement as it associates the LIGHT of the moon at its renewal, as a sign in the Most Holy compartment of the Temple.
The last few words of the quote from the Dead Sea Scrolls declare in essence that all that was previously stated shall continue “in all times to come.” This means that the divisions of days, months, and years, according to the Creator’s LIGHTS were ordained to continue forever. It was never His plan for the Roman Gregorian calendar system to usurp His pre-ordained Kadosh (sacred) TIME-MEASURING MECHANISM. However, He allowed it for a determined period known as the times of the gentiles. But now, as we enter the TIME OF THE END, He will use His authentic time-measuring model as His last testing truth for the great and final harvest of the earth. How might this work? Because only those who seek Him and are listening for His still small voice will hear and obey.
Making Known His Entrance/His Return
In connection with the Temple, the sun in the west is a symbol of the Father in the Most set-apart compartment of the Temple, while the moon is the symbol of His Son, the Messiah, entering the night sky in the east. The full moon is the richest symbol of the Messiah’s splendor and pure perfect truth, fully reflecting the light of His Father. It is at the “EAST GATE” of the Temple where the Messiah, as depicted by the full moon, entered upon His work in the Salvation of mankind.
At the cross/stake, He gave up His life as the ransom for all mankind, symbolized by the light of the moon being fully extinguished on the 14th day of Aviv, as it was the day of the conjunction and a solar eclipse. Refer to, “The Sun Was Darkened from the Sixth to the Ninth Hour.” While the Passover portion of the Messiah’s work was finished at the cross/stake, His entire work of Salvation will not be complete until His Second Coming when He returns again via the entrance at the east gate. Just as each renewed and rebuilt full New Moon arises in the east, YAHUSHA our Messiah shall arise in all His fullness and majesty (Matthew 24:27).
The book of Proverbs reveals the day of the month our Messiah shall return (or begins His return) from His current work before His Father’s seat of power.
For my husband is not at home, He has gone on a long journey; He has taken a bag of money with Him, at the full moon he will return home. Proverbs 7:19-20 NASU
He is returning for His bride following a lengthy 2,000-year ministry in the heavens (shamayim) temple above, on behalf of mankind’s soul temples. For He had gone away to His Father to purchase the souls of confessing sinners with His blood, He will then return home for His bride at the appointed time. It appears that the Feast of Trumpets announces the return of our King, the great event that will occur on a full New Moon.
Conclusion
In conclusion, we have once again a beautiful description of the full New Moon commencing both its length of rule and its dominion boundaries when it arises following sunset, shining from east to west the whole night through together with the stars.
And they that be wise shall shine as the brightness of the firmament; and they that turn many to righteousness as the stars for ever and ever. Daniel 12:3
The confident expectation of YAHUAH’S believers is YAHUSHA HaMashiach’s soon return. What an occasion that will be when He returns making His ENTRANCE in the EAST in every locality of the earth to receive His bride unto Himself. It will be a momentous event none of us will want to miss. And we have the assurance that the full moon as New Moon was ordained to ensure that all who are obedient to heed, will ENTER IN right on time. I hope to see you there.
